What is tooth extraction?
Tooth extraction is a common dental procedure used to remove decayed, damaged or problematic teeth. At Cabra Dental Centre, we prioritize our patients’ healthy smiles and may recommend an extraction when necessary. While dentists make every effort to preserve natural teeth, sometimes an extraction is required.
When is tooth extraction recommended?
Your dentist will only recommend tooth extraction if it is necessary and the natural tooth cannot be saved, such as when the tooth is heavily broken down, has an unrepairable fracture or crack, the nerve is dead or infected and root canal treatment is not desired, severe periodontal disease, orthodontic treatment requiring removal for space, or wisdom teeth impacted causing pain or infection.

What is the process of tooth extraction?
If tooth extraction is necessary, it will be done using local anaesthesia and may involve a surgical procedure for more complex cases. After the extraction, stitches might be placed to aid in healing.
What happens after tooth extraction?
Your dentist will provide detailed aftercare instructions and discuss options for replacing the extracted tooth, such as dental implants, bridges, or dentures. The recovery period typically lasts 2-3 days and can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers. A period of healing of at least 3 months is usually recommended before proceeding with restorative procedures.
How much does tooth extraction cost?
