What are lip fillers?
Lip fillers are a type of dermal filler that is used to add volume to the lips. They are made up of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a natural substance found in the body.
What is the process for getting lip fillers?
During a lip filler procedure, your healthcare provider will apply a topical anesthetic to numb your lips or local anesthesia to make it totally pain free procedure. After a few minutes, a thin needle is used to inject the filler into various parts of your lips. The process may take around 30 minutes and may include the use of an ice pack to minimize swelling.
What is the recovery time?
After 12-24 hours, your pain should subside. The swelling should go down within 24-48 hours, but it may take up to a week for it to fully disappear. If you have an important event coming up, it’s best to schedule the procedure at least two weeks in advance to ensure proper recovery time.
What are some Do’s and Don’ts after the treatment?
- Use an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce swelling, pain and inflammation
- Avoid applying lipstick, lip balm or any other product on your lips for at least 24 hours
- Refrain from touching or puckering your lips, including kissing and sipping from a straw
- Be cautious when brushing your teeth
- Drink plenty of water
- Avoid exercising for at least 24 hours.
